How can We Find an Internet Service Provider (ISP)?

Jayne Cravens (http://www.coyotecom.com) advises: For a complete list of Internet service providers (ISPs)everywhere in the U.S., use a Web browser (many local libraries have one if you don't) to access this URL: http://thelist.iworld.com/. Type in your area code, and you will get a list of providers that serve that area. I prefer to go providers that are actually geographically located in the same area, if possible, as they usually provide better customer service than the "biggies" like America Online. Or, open up your phone book and look in the yellow pages. As of 1997, my home town in Kentucky of 27,000 people has four area ISPs (this up from none two years before). If your town is truly small and you don't find anything via the aforementioned Web site or the phone book, ask around at other nonprofits in your area and find out how they have obtained their Internet services.
