The Nonprofit FAQ

What is American Humanics?

Mission is to provide our diverse population with professional education
for leadership and management of nonprofit organizations.

AH is a national, nonprofit organization, a partnership of 13 agencies:
Red Cross, Junior Achievement, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Big Brothers,
Big Sisters, YMCA, YWCA, Boys and Girls Clubs, Girls Incorporated, Camp
Fire Boys and Girls, Goodwill Industries, 4-H.

It has 17 college affiliates across the country who provide the academic
"home" for the program, accreditation, diplomas for graduates, etc.

About l l/2 years ago, we (national office) received a $l.4 million
grant to nearly triple our size to 45 campuses. Spent some time doing
research and strategic plan on what cities and universities would be the
logical ones to partner with for new programs.

Our, national organization, founded in 1948 by the Boy Scouts, offers
some really great programs for students from across the country (a major
one coming up in January in Houston), scholarship and loan funds,
ongoing review of the "competency outline," that the campuses all teach
to, and partnership with the national offices of the member
organizations. As you can imagine, in nearly 50 years of service, we
have thousands of graduates all over the country. Most carry the AH
mission in their hearts and will do whatever they can to carry on the
helping tradition.

Each university's program is independent. Some are funded outright by
the college that houses them. Some, like mine, have Chapter groups that
raise the funds in the community to carry on the Chapter's work. In
L.A., we are housed at a State University, so expenses for a program of
this type would have to be approved by the state legislature. In the
current economic climate, "don't even think about it."

Is that more than you ever wanted to know?

get aol at work. You can also order the packet by phone at 213-343-4580.
