Grandchildren Living With Grandparents and Age Dependency: The Community Data Collaborative's updated map explores the percent of grandchildren cared for exclusively by a grandparent. "In New Mexico, statewide that number is 1.7% and has remained steady. But in many neighborhoods the proportion is 5 to 10 times higher and rising." Tom Scharmen Updated Map Link
Advocating for Grandparents: House Memorial 008, passed in 2015, establishes a task force to study and recommend policy changes to expand the availability of resources and assistance for grandparents raising grandchildren. The first Task Force Report summarizes issues facing grandparents raising grandchildren in New Mexico and offers a number of recommendations.
