New Mexico Health Councils

New Mexico’s County and Tribal Health Councils  were created 23 years ago, following the passage of the Maternal and Child Health Plan Act by the New Mexico State Legislature.  Since then, the councils have played a key role in the state’s public health system by identifying local health needs, establishing community priorities and plans, and implementing local solutions.  For many years, the community health councils have completed health profiles for each of the counties; these profiles have been used by community organizations to write grant proposals and have brought in funds to our communities.  The health councils have also attracted millions of dollars in funding to support programs and services to improve the health of their communities.  Visit the New Mexico Alliance for Health Council website for more information on how to connect with your local Health Council.
