Wellness

Health care is moving towards integrating prevention and self-management of chronic disease; in addition, community partners are building innovative programs that increase access to healthy food, nutrition education, and other evidence-based programs to support healthy communities.  Check out the community health calendar and quick links for opportunities to access resources in your community.

Walk to Wellness

Something as simple as a daily brisk walk can help you live a healthier life. For example, regular brisk walking can help you:

  • Maintain a healthy weight
  • Prevent or manage various conditions, including heart disease, high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes
  • Strengthen your bones and muscles
  • Improve your mood
  • Improve your balance and coordination

The faster, farther and more frequently you walk, the greater the benefits. The Bernalillo County "Healthy Here" initiative has been producing walking trail maps for the community -- see Library Items on this page. Does your community have walking trail maps? SHARE them with us! Contact [email protected]
