Intro

Eight of the largest funders from across New Mexico have banded together and created an easy-to-use online common application system that will significantly reduce paperwork and improve the grant application system for New Mexico nonprofits. The new process is unique to New Mexico and its ability to prefill grant application forms is innovative to the nonprofit industry.

The Process

To apply for a grant through the Common Grant Application process, first check to ensure that your organization is in the SHARE Resource Directory, that the information is accurate and up-to-date, and that you are associated with this organization.

Steps:

1. Register and log into ShareNM.org
2. Click on the SHARE Resource Directory in the main navigation bar.
3. Enter your organizations name or part of the name in the top text box and click the 'Check to search name only' box. Now click the 'Search' button.
4. Click on your organization's name in the search results to view your organization's profile
5. From your organization's profile page click the 'Edit Profile' button at the top.
6. On the Organizational Overview tab, at the bottom of the form, select your association with the organization from the drop-down list and click 'Submit'
7. Now our system has you associated with this organization, and you can come back to apply for this grant. This is a one-time process and will not have to be repeated again when you want to apply for other grants or edit your profile information

Benefits

The funders' priority is to simplify the grant application to reduce the amount of time involved for nonprofit applicants. General information required by all funders will only have to be filled in once, or updated annually to ensure accuracy, here at SHARE New Mexico. Nonprofits are also able to securely upload and store frequently requested documents such as the IRS 990 form, an organization’s last audit report or current financial statements for use with grant applications. Funders have the ability to customize questions for each grant application through the common application process and can view proposals online at SHARE. "This online common application will not only make it easier for nonprofits submitting applications for grants, it will also provide a common location for funders to post grant programs which will benefit both funders and nonprofits," said Diane Harrison Ogawa, Executive Director of the PNM Resources Foundation, one of the funders working on the new process.
