  • B9/Folic Acid Education Initiative

The purpose of the New Mexico Folic Acid Initiative was to provide educational and media messages that encouraged women aged 14 to 45 to regularly consume folic acid to promote overall health, to increase healthy pregnancies and to prevent birth defects.  Activities of the Initiative were designed to primarily for Hispanic and Native American women in Bernalillo, San Juan, McKinley and Dona Ana Counties, which was funded by W.K. Kellogg Foundation. Currently, the project isn’t funded, but the materials developed by the two-year pilot project in four NM Counties, are now available to all communities in NM in English and Spanish. Check out the resources listed on the sidebar. Share your ideas and experiences with us. Contact: Aussy Levi, Project Director, at [email protected] with any questions.

Thank you to our Stakeholders and all our four Counties and partners - without you this initiative wouldn’t have been successful.
