Philanthropy & Civic Engagement

Philanthropy is a critical part of a democratic society. It supports projects and endeavors from which we all benefit, such as libraries, museums and scientific research. Charities rely on the generosity of donors’ time and money. Working together, these organizations and individuals provide for many unmet needs in their communities. During times of economic uncertainty, it becomes even more important for these partnerships to flourish and for individuals to become further invested in the welfare of their communities. For more information on philanthropic endeavors in Northwest Lousiana, please see the following for volunteer opportunities,  foundation information, board resources, and donor information.

Civic engagement or civic participation is the encouragement of the general public to become involved in the political process and the issues that affect them. It is the community coming together to be a collective source of change, political and non-political. It is, in part, what is required to address many of the challenges of our community. The Shreveport-Bossier MSA has a 62.1% rate of registered voters with the Monroe MSA at 65.8% and Bastrop at 68%.
