Conducting a Community Survey

The Freedom Summer '09 Project in Washington, DC used a simple one page questionnaire that its team members administered during its evening door-to-door canvassing. Response rates for people who were home were in the 80-90% range. The questionnaire is attached. The purpose was to:

  • identify major areas of community concern,
  • general willingness to become engaged in the community, and
  • specific volunteer activities that people were willing to participate in.
