This draft NCCS working paper on "Navigating the Form 990 Minefield: A Line-by-Line Guide for Researchers to Potential Inconsistencies in the Reporting of Revenue, Expenses and the Balance Sheet", is, as the title says, intended to help researchers identify possible sources of differences in reporting on the Form 990. In some cases, these reflect flexibility inherent in GAAP or Form 990 instructions. In other cases, these may reflect common misunderstandings or errors in reporting.
