The Nonprofit FAQ

How do we build skills in leadership, management and supervision?
The following announcement was made in March 2001;

The Community Capacity Building initiative, a partnership between the twenty
Regional Economic Development Boards (REDB’s), Department of Industry, Trade
and Rural Development, Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, and Human
Resources Development Canada, is a comprehensive education and training
program designed by REDB’s to assist REDB’s and other organizations with
economic development activities through the strengthening of leadership, and
community and individual empowerment. The initiative resulted in the
development of twelve workshops designed to stimulate group discussion.
Workshop topics include strategic planning, leadership and motivation,
public participation, group dynamics, meeting management, etc. In
addition, the program has resulted in the development of a "Taking Care of
Business" Booklet that provides useful information for starting a business
including topics such as customer service and market research in a small
town.

A Web site has been developed for this initiative, http://www.cedresources.nf.net .
This site provides an overview of the initiative and contains all twelve
modules online as well as PowerPoint slides and participant exercises. The
"Taking Care of Business" booklet is also available. A great feature of
this Web site is the Open Discussion Forum which enables individuals to
communicate via email on topics related to community capacity building. The
web site is continuously expanding and improving to offer visitors an
organized and comprehensive resource.
