Dennis was first settled as a part of The Town of Yarmouth in 1639 by John Crowe, Anthony Thacher, and Thomas Howes and incorporated as its own entity in 1793. Dennis is one of Cape Cod's premier seaside resort towns Dennis is composed of five different villages: Dennis (02638), Dennis Port (02639), East Dennis (02641), West Dennis (02670), and South Dennis (02660).

Dennis is the starting point to the Cape Cod Rail trail, one of many bike paths and Dennis and around Cape Cod, maintains many hiking and walking trails throughout some of land conservations, and Scargo Tower is worth a visit for its breathtaking views of nearly thw whole of Cape Cod.
