Free video production available for nonprofits

Albuquerque - SHARE New Mexico is now accepting applications for nonprofits seeking assistance producing and hosting videos which showcase the work they do in the Albuquerque area. In partnership with Central New Mexico Community College (CNM), the Digital Arts and Technology Academy, and Leadership Albuquerque’s Project Awareness, SHARE New Mexico seeks to increase public awareness of services provided by these local nonprofits.

“We figured this would be a great way to kind of continue the work that SHARE New Mexico is doing in providing a way for nonprofits to create a video,” CNM president Kathie Winograd said during a presentation at the Sheraton Albuquerque Airport Hotel, where the initiative was announced on Monday.

Winograd said the videos will be about two to three minutes long, “because nobody wants to watch any longer than that,” and that the nonprofits selected through the initiative will have the option of having their video uploaded to the Share New Mexico website, the City of Albuquerque website, or to their own website. “It will be that continuous way that we can kind of tell their story,” she said.

Also attending Monday’s presentation was Albuquerque Mayor Richard Berry, who is participating in various events as part of the April 12-18 National Volunteer Week. Berry said that as mayor one of the hardest questions he gets is when people ask him how they can help. “One of the frustrating things for me, especially during my first term, is what the answer for that is,” Berry said. “The right answer is, get out there and find something you’re passionate about and something you’re willing to give your life to, and get after it. That’s the short answer,” he said. “The long answer involves connectivity.”

Debi Randall, project director of Share New Mexico, said connectivity is exactly what SHARE New Mexico is about. She said that through the video initiative nonprofits can now make a visual connection with other organizations and learn what they can do to work together for the community. “We’re getting great opportunities now to take SHARE to levels that we didn’t quite realize in the beginning,” Randall said.

Diane Ogawa, Executive Director at PNM Resources Foundation and founder of SHARE New Mexico, said SHARE helps to connect more than just people and organizations. “SHARE New Mexico is a passion for many of us. It brings together ideas and resources,” she said.

To apply to have a video made by one of the initiative’s production teams visit www.sharenm.org. Applicants must be a nonprofit based in the city of Albuquerque and in need of assistance showcasing their work to the public. Five applicants will be selected for the year.
